Daily(ish) UI - Design a Social Share Button/Icon

For funsies and a bit of inspiration, I’m posting some design challenges from DailyUI.com (although not particularly daily). These are meant to be conceived and executed rapidly. So I don’t spend more than two hours coming up with, creating, and publishing any of these.

DailyUI prompts are always quite vague, and this one is to “Design a Social Share Button.”

Thinking about the nature of sharing and where it might be used (perhaps an infotainment site like TMZ?), I created an icon capturing the desire to amplify things to one’s network with a megaphone.

Continuing to use these challenges currently to improve my knowledge of Figma, I animated a brief “on click” behavior using Figmotion. I can say, without a doubt, it’s one of the least functional animation tools I’ve ever seen. It’s supposed to subvert the need to use Principle, but it’s really no replacement.

Daily(ish) UI - Design a 404 Page

For funsies and a bit of inspiration, I’m posting some design challenges from DailyUI.com (although not particularly daily). These are meant to be conceived and executed rapidly. So I don’t spend more than two hours coming up with, creating, and publishing any of these.

DailyUI prompts are always quite vague, and this one is to “Design a 404 Page.”

For content direction today, I picked a favorite local agency that has no custom 404 page and whipped up a little something fun. I had particularly little time today, so I’ll be coming back to add more detail, but the basics are there and it could function right now as is.

I’m still using these as a way to explore and gain speed with Figma–which is starting to grow on me–but just like Sketch, it feels like I’m playing with a kindergarten version of Adobe Illustrator when making and combining shapes.

Check out ArgoDesign.com for some of the baddest-ass (bad-ass’iest?) work coming out of the ATX!

For content direction today, I was struck for inspiration by the REM song “It’s the End of the World.”

So I turned the intro stanza of the song into a tongue-in-cheek settings page complete with some creative repurposing and modification of standard Material icons, and a little original icon work mixed in. I pulled colors and font inspiration from the album art, as well :)

“That's great, it starts with an earthquake,

Birds and snakes, and aeroplanes,

And Lenny Bruce is not afraid.”

-REM, Document No. 5, “It’s the End of the World”
